The Indian School of Business, Hyderabad has been ranked 20 in the global business school rankings by Financial Times. This makes ISB perhaps the youngest institution to be ranked in top 20. As a cherry on the cake, this was the first time the ISB participated in any kind of rankings!
Started in 2001, the ISB is India's first world class B-school. Privately-funded and independent are the key attributes of this school. This enables the ISB to choose the best of the lot without any pressure from the government. In fact, the ISB awards a certificate at the end of MBA rather than a degree or diploma. In India, awarding a degree or diploma requires that the institute adhere to the reservation norms. To do so would be to deviate from the world-class tenets against which the school would be competing.
Of course, the ISB was possible because of help from Chandrababu Naidu, the then CM of Andhra Pradesh. He expedited the process of getting the required approvals and allotments to help the efforts to create a world-class B-school in India.
This is a proud moment for me as an Indian. I hope the school continues to attain great heights in the future!
